Art is just reverse of real life robed in artistic form. Cuba is extraordinary specific country composed of extremely mixed population of various skin colors and origins; probably therefore Cuban art is so bright, impressive, and extravagant.
In fact, contemporary Cuban art is a certain blend of Spanish, African, and American trends and directions.
Speaking about art its impossible to ignore social, economic, and political background as it unavoidably predetermines development of art. Revolution in 1959 was turning point of Cuban history and since 1950th years of 20th century revolution and patriotic theme have been one of the most important themes in all forms of art: painting, music, cinema, sculpture, etc. Heroes of revolution were extremely inspiring image for a number of Cuban painters. Also in all forms of contemporary art (especially in cubism style of painting) one can trace theme of poverty of Cuban people. Social aspects of Cuban life probably have been reflected in art more frequently than personal ones but now when politic and economic situation is getting stable artists more and more often turn to the challenges of humans inner world.
Contemporary Cuban art is very diversified and presented by various genres and styles but if we try to distinguish the most important trends its possible to say that in painting it is avant-gardism and modern primitivism, in music - son, in dance salsa.
In spite of not very favorable conditions for art development, contemporary Cuban art has its own unique face. Some genius Cuban painters, musicians, sculptors and photographers became famous all over the world.
